For more than 16 years, the Diocese of Gaylord has worked diligently, with the assistance of knowledgeable individuals, organizations and civil authorities, to implement and improve policies and procedures for the protection of children. To help ensure children are protected, and to promote healing where abuse has occurred, the diocese encourages all victims of child abuse or neglect to report the matter. In fact, many professionals are required by Michigan law to immediately report suspected abuse or neglect of any child to the Department of Human Services at 855.444.3911. That number is answered 24 hours a day.
Those who wish to inform the Diocese of Gaylord of an allegation regarding sexual misconduct involving a minor by clergy or an employee of the Church in our diocese — even if it is in the distant past — may also contact our Victim Assistance Coordinator Larry LaCross at 989.705.9010.
Recently, the Michigan Attorney General’s office opened an investigation into the handling of past allegations of sexual abuse and assault by priests of children and others in the Catholic Church dating back to 1950. The Diocese of Gaylord is cooperating in this investigation. If you have information you would like to share with the Attorney General’s Office, please call 844.324.3374 or email[email protected].
